“انطلق فنّ  سباستيو سالچادو من بؤرة بشرية بحتة. أراد أن يلمس ويوثّق الحياة البشرية في الزمن الذي وجد فيه. وعوضاُ عن توثيق النجاحات البشرية، ولج بشجاعةٍ في عيوبها: الفقر، الجوع، التهجير وعبودية العمل. سخر كل طاقاته وموهبته في إقتحام اسوأ ما في حياة البشر اليوم وتحويلها إلى أعمال فنيه رائعة تتصدر جدران المتاحف وتزين صالونات متذوقي الفنّ.

 

تمكّن من خلال عينه الثّاقبة وإحساسه المرهف من إظهار الجمال في رحم القبح. وإكتشاف العبر في نظرة الألم. وتسجيل

الضوء في غياهب الظلام. تخطى سباستيو في هذا المشروع حدود البشريّة إلى ما هو أكبر: الحياة. من المحيطات إلى الغابات والوديان والحيوانات وأخيراٌ البشر. استطاع بعدسته رواية قصة الخلق بكل جمالها وجمعها في كتابٍ  واحدٍ”

يشمل المعرض مجموعة من الاعمال التي تروي عن حكاية تأتي بعد ٢٥ سنه من إطفاء حرائق آبار النفط في الكويت وحكاية” أحد' الأبطال الذي نقل لنا الحالة الإنسانية لتلك الحادثة وهوالمصور والحائز على الدكتوراه في الإقتصاد (سيباستيو سالچادو) والذي بدأ التصوير في الثلاثينيات من عمره، ولكن الالتزام صار هوساً بالنسبة له. مشاريعه التي استمرت لسنين صوّرت بشكل جميل الجانب البشري من القصة العالمية التي غالباً ما تتضمن الموت، الدمار أو الخراب. هنا يخبرنا بقصة شخصية عميقة عن الحرفة التي كادت تنهي حياته، و يرينا صوراً حابسة للأنفاس عن عمله الأخير جينيسيس (التكوين او الخليقة بالعربية) الذي يوثق الناس و الأماكن المنسية في العالم، ولأول مرّة يلتقي ابن الغابات المطرية في البرازيل بصمت الصحراء العربية، أثناء إطفاء آبار البترول في حرب الخليج الثانية”.

Hafez Gallery is honored to host the solo exhibtion of Brazilian Photographer Sebastião Salgado (1944, Brazil).

“Sebastião Salgado started from a pure human sink. He wanted to touch humanity through his moving photographic documentary of human life during his time on Earth. Instead of recording human victories, he took refuge in its flaws. Poverty, Famine, Emigration, Labor Slavery. He used all of his strength and energy to penetrate the worst parts of human life today and transform them into beautiful works of art that adorn museum walls and art connoisseurs’ walls.

 

His piercing gaze and high sensitivity have allowed him to uncover beauty in the middle of ugliness. He discovered wisdom through pain. Recording light where there are shadows. Sebastião surpassed human boundaries to what is bigger: Life. From oceans, to forests, valleys, animals and finally, humans. Through his camera lens, he was able to tell the story of creation in its entire splendor in one book.”

"The exhibition entails a collection of works that tells a story that comes 25 years after the oil pipelines of Kuwait were put off. It is the story of one the heroes who transmitted this catastrophe to the public. He is none other than the award winning and economy PhD laureate Sebastião Salgado. This hero starting taking pictures in his thirties but commitment became an obsession for him. His projects that lasted for years have recorded the beautiful side of humans, from the international story that often holds death, destruction or damage. He tells us here the story of how a hobby almost ended his life and shows us breathtaking pictures of his last world, Genesis. This project documents forgotten places and people around the world. For the first time, the Brazilian rainforest son meets the Arabian Desert’s silence, when the oil pipelines were being put off during the Second Gulf War.”
